We have been delighted to see so many of you museum-goers at Romano’s and we agree — it’s a wonderful place for lunch either before or after a visit to our neighbourhood museums.

It has been especially gratifying to hear about your enthusiasm for Lucian Freud: Drawing into Painting, which is in its final days at the National Portrait Gallery (closing 4th May).

A Portrait of Friendship: Lucian Freud and Jeremy King

This magnificent showing of the artist’s works on paper is especially interesting for those of us at Simpson’s. It shows two works featuring our founder: the painting ‘Jeremy King’ and the copper etching plate ‘Head of Jeremy King,’ for which Jeremy sat during morning sessions twice a week at Freud’s studio.

Until his death, Freud was a regular at The Wolseley, and over the course of many years he and Jeremy became close friends.

‘I’m very aware that [Jeremy] is no different when he’s on his own than when he’s with me,’ said Freud. ‘It’s very rare.’
