Summer Events at Somerset House in London

We’d like to think we have something to do with the fact that the scene surrounding The Strand has never felt buzzier, but Simpson’s goings-on aside, the neighbourhood is full of exciting developments as we head into high summer.

Especially over at Somerset House, where the theme of music will transcend its programming over the next few months.

So which events mustn’t be missed?

Holy Pop! at Somerset House

The anchor of it all is the exhibition Holy Pop!, which opened on 21st May and runs through 9th August. It’s a celebration (of sorts) of celebrity worship, and its bizarre artefacts include a piece of Nina Simone’s chewing gum, which was collected by the musician Warren Ellis after Simone’s final UK performance.

George Clinton and the Somerset House Summer Series

On 30th June, an exhibition about George Clinton will open, and for those who prefer to experience music in more traditional formats such as concerts, the Somerset House Summer Series returns in July.

The Flaming Lips on 25th July and Mercury Prize winner Benjamin Clementine on 26th July are destined to be highlights of the programme.

And, should your summer plans bring you to The Strand, we hope you might find time to stop by Simpson’s along the way.
